The 1st generation Acura Legend was available since 1986 in 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan body styles. Sedan models were powered by a 2.5L (2,494 cc) Honda C25A V6 making 151 hp (113 kW) at 5800 rpm and 154 lb·ft (209 N·m) at 4500 rpm engine. Coupes (and sedans since 1988) were powered by a 2.7L (2,675 cc) Honda C27A V6 making 161 hp (120 kW) at 5900 rpm and 162 lb·ft (220 N·m) at 4500 rpm engine. The standard transmission was a 4-speed automatic while a 5-speed manual transmission was an option. In 1989 the Acura Legend sedan received some minor tweaks.

The 2nd generation Acura Legend was available since 1991 in base, L and LS trims. The standard engine was a 3.2L (3,206 cc) Honda C32A V6 making 260 hp (194 kW) at 5500 rpm and 210 lb·ft (285 N·m) at 4500 rpm. In 1993 the engine was upgraded (all sedans were powered by a Honda C32A Type II making 230 hp (172 kW) at 6200 rpm and 206 lb·ft (279 N·m) at 5000 rpm engine, along with the option of a six-speed manual transmission). In 1994 the base sedan was dropped, while a new GS sedan became the new top-line variant. The LS trim lost the option for 5/6-speed manual transmissions and was only available with a four-speed automatic transmission.
