The 1st generation Chevrolet Blazer was available since 1982 in 2/4-door SUV body styles. Base power was provided by General Motors 2.0 L OHV four-cylinder engine, producing 83 hp (62 kW) at 4600 rpm and 108 lbft (146 Nm) at 2400 rpm. The 2.8 L LR2 V6 115 hp (86 kW) and 150 lbft (203 Nm) was offered as an option. The 1.9 L Isuzu 78-80 hp (58-60 kW), 2.0 L OHV 83 hp (62 kW) 108 lbft (146 Nm) and 2.2 L diesel 58 hp (43 kW) were dropped after 1985, replaced by the larger 2.5 L Iron Duke 92 hp (69 kW) engine. The 2.8 L LL2 125 hp (93 kW) was discontinued in 1990 for the Chevrolet Blazer where the 4.3 L 4300 160 hp (120 kW) 235 lbft (319 Nm) became the base engine.

The 2nd generation Chevrolet Blazer was available since 1995 in 2/4-door SUV body styles (six trim levels were available: Base, standard trim LS, luxury trim LT, luxury trim Trailblazer Upscale, sport trim Xtreme and off-road trim ZR2). The standard engines were 4.3 L Vortec 4300 L35 195 hp (145 kW) 250 lbft (339 Nm) and 2.2 L Family II engine L4 138 hp (103 kW) 144 lbft (195 Nm). In 1996 the 4.3L engine has been updated to 190 hp (142 kW) 250 lbft (339 Nm). In 1998, the interior and exterior received some cosmetic changes.
