The 1st generation Chevrolet S-10 (also called GMC S-15 or GMC Sonoma) was available since 1982 in 2-door regular and extended cab body styles. The base engine was a 1.9 L LR1 Isuzu 82 hp (61 kW) 101 lbft (137 Nm) while a 2.8 L LR2 110 hp (82 kW) 148 lbft (201 Nm) was an option. In 1983 the 2.0 L LQ2 GM 122 83 hp (62 kW) 108 lbft (146 Nm) engine was added. In 1985 this engine was replaced with the 2.5 L LN8 Iron Duke 92 hp (69 kW) 134 lbft (182 Nm). In 1991-1993 the 2.5 L LN8 and 2.8 L LL2 125 hp (93 kW) 150 lbft (203 Nm) were dropped and the new 2.5 L L38 Iron Duke 105 hp (78 kW) 135 lbft (183 Nm), 4.3 L LB4 160 hp (119 kW) 230 lbft (312 Nm) and 4.3 L L35 195 hp (145 kW) 260 lbft (353 Nm) engines were added.

The 2nd generation Chevrolet S-10 (also called GMC Sonoma, Isuzu Hombre or Opel Sierra) was available since 1994 in the same body styles. The base engine was a 2.2 L Vortec LN2 110 hp (82 kW) 130 lbft (176 Nm) while a 4.3 L LB4 155 hp (116 kW) 235 lbft (319 Nm) and 4.3 L Vortec L35 200 hp (150 kW) 260 lbft (350 Nm) were an option. In 1996 the 4.3L L35 180 hp (134 kW) 245 lbft (332 Nm) engine was refreshed. In 2000 the 2.2 L Vortec LN2 was replaced with the new 2.2 L Vortec L43 120 hp (89 kW) 140 lbft (190 Nm). The US version of the Chevrolet S-10 was discontinued in 2004.
