Ford Cougar was available since 1998 in 2-door coupe body style. 1998-2002 Cougars were available with two engine options: the 2.0L 16V Zetec I4 129 hp (96 kW) and the 2.5L 24V Duratec V6 168 hp (125 kW). Also, two transaxle options were available: the 5-speed Ford MTX-75 manual transmission (with both engines) or the 4-speed Ford CD4E automatic transmission (with 2.5L Duratec only [I4/automatic combination was extremely rare]). With the 2.5 L engine was available an x-pack: included leather upholstered and heated front seats with 6 way electric adjustment for the drivers seat and a Ford RDS6000 6-speaker radio with 6-CD autochanger. From 1999 to 2002 in the US market Ford Cougar was available as the Mercury Cougar (8th generation).
