The 4th generation of Ford Econoline was available since 1992 in 3/4-door van body styles. In 1997 a 4.2L Essex V6 217 hp (162 kW) replaced the 4.9L inline-6 145 hp (108 kW) and a 6.8L Triton V10 305 hp (227 kW) replaced the 7.5L 385 V8 240 hp (180 Kw); the 4.6L and 5.4L Triton V8s replaced the 5.0L and 5.8L Windsor V8s. The van received an updated front end with a new grille that featured an oval cutout and new lower front bumper trim. Inside, an ergonomic dashboard layout containing dual airbags was introduced. In 2004 a 6.0L Power stroke V8 325 hp (242 kW) replaced the 7.3L Power Stroke V8 250 hp (190 kW). The 5th generation of Ford Econoline was available since 2008. The 6.0L turbo diesel is retained on the van.
