The 1st generation Ford Fusion was available since 1986 in a 4-door sedan body style (three trim levels were available: base-trim S, step-up-trim SE and top-of-the-line-trim SEL). The standard engine was the 2.3L (2,261 cc) indirect injection Duratec 23 I4 making 160 hp (119 kW) at 6500 rpm and 156 lb·ft (212 N·m) at 4000 rpm while the 3.0L (2,967 cc) Duratec 30 V6 making 221 hp (165 kW) at 6250 rpm and 205 lb·ft (278 N·m) at 4800 rpm was available in SE and SEL models.

The Ford Fusion 1st generation phase II was available since 2010 (the refreshed version was available in four trim levels: S, SE, SEL and Sport). New 2.5L I4 and 3.0L V6 engines coupled to the new 6-speed Ford 6F35 automatic transmission.

The 2nd generation Ford Fusion was available since 2013 (three trim levels were available: S, SE, and Titanium). The new Ford Fusion had a 122 mm (4.8 in) bigger wheelbase, is 28 mm (1.1 in) longer 18 mm (0.7 in) wider and 31 mm (1.2 in) taller than the previous model.
