Two trim levels were available: the Base with the 2.0L (1,991 cc) Mazda FS-DE I4 engine making 118 hp (88 kW) at 5500 rpm and 124 lb·ft (168 N·m) at 3500 rpm and the GT with the 2.5L (2,497 cc) Mazda KL-DE V-6 engine making 164 hp (122 kW) at 6000 rpm and 156 lb·ft (212 N·m) at 4000 rpm. The standard transmission was the 5-speed G5M manual while the 4-speed automatic transmission was an option.
