The 1st generation Honda Insight was available since 1991 in a 3-door hatchback body style. The Honda Insight was the first mass-produced hybrid automobile sold in the United States. The standard engine was 1.0L (995 cc) ECA1 VTEC-E SOHC 3-cylinder making 67 hp (50 kW) at 5700 rpm and 83 lbВ·ft (113 NВ·m) at 1500 rpm. The standard transmission was a five-speed manual while a continuously variable transmission was an option.

The 2nd generation Honda Insight was available since 2010 in a 5-door hatchback body style (five trim levels were available: G, EX, L, LS and LX). The 1.0L ECA engine was replaced by a new higher powered 1.3L (1,339 cc) LDA i-VTEC SOHC 4-cylinder making 98 hp (73 kW) at 5800 rpm and 123 lbВ·ft (167 NВ·m) at 1500 rpm. In 2011 the Honda Insight was facelifted. There was several significant changes to improve the car, including exterior, interior, driving and fuel economy.
