The 1st generation Acura RL was available since 1996 in a 4-door sedan body style (two trim levels were available: Base and Premium). One petrol engines was available: 3.5 L Honda C35A V6 produced 210 hp (157 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 224 lb·ft (304 N·m) at 2,800 rpm. The standard transmission was a 4-speed automatic. In 1999, Acura RL was facelifted. In 2002, the engine was upgraded to produce 225 hp (168 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 231 lb·ft (313 N·m) at 2,800 rpm.
The 2nd generation Acura RL was available since 2005 in Base and Technology trim levels. One petrol engines was available: 3.5 L Honda J35A V6 produced 300 hp (224 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 260 lb·ft (353 N·m) at 5,000 rpm [in 2006 the engine was revised to 290 hp (220 kW)]. The standard transmission was replaced with a 5-speed automatic. In 2009, the engine was upgraded to 3.7 L Honda J37A V6 produced 300 hp (224 kW) at 6,300 rpm and 271 lb·ft (367 N·m) at 5,000 rpm. In 2011, Acura RL was updated.
