Buick Rainier was introduced in 2003 in a 5-door wagon body style (2WD and 4WD models). Two trim levels were available: CXL and CXL Plus. Two petrol engines were available: 4.2 L Vortec LL8 I6 produced 270 hp (200 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 275 lb·ft (373 N·m) of torque at 3,600 rpm, 5.3 L Small-block 5300 LH6 V8 produced 300 hp (220 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 330 lb·ft (447 N·m) of torque at 4,000 rpm. In 2006, the 4.2L engine was updated to produce 291 hp (217 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 277 lb·ft (376 N·m) of torque at 4,800 rpm. In 2007, the 5.3L engine was updated to produce 315 hp (235 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 338 lb·ft (458 N·m) of torque at 4,000 rpm.
