The 1st generation Chevrolet Astro was introduced in 1985 in 3-door cargo van and 3-door passenger van body styles. Three petrol engines were available: 2.5 L Tech IV I4 produced 98 hp (73 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 128 lb·ft (173 N·m) at 3,000 rpm, 4.3 L LB1-LB4 V6 produced 155-165 hp (116-123 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 230-235 lb·ft (312-319 N·m) at 2,000-2,400 rpm, 4.3 L L35 V6 produced 200 hp (150 kW) at 4,500 rpm and 260 lb·ft (353 N·m) at 3,600 rpm.
The 2nd generation Chevrolet Astro was introduced in 1995 in the same body styles. One petrol engine was available: 4.3 L LG3 V6 produced 190 hp (140 kW) at 4,400 rpm and 250 lb·ft (339 N·m) at 2,800 rpm.
