The Chevrolet Beretta was available since 1987 in 2-door coupe body style (six trim levels were available: base trim CL, GT, GTU, Indy, GTZ and Z26). The base model Chevrolet Beretta CL was equipped with the 2.2 L LM3 four-cylinder engine 95 hp (71 kW) 120 lbft (163 Nm) and the 3-speed 3T40 automatic transmission by default, or the 3.1 L LH0 140 hp (104 kW) at 4800 rpm and 185 lbft (251 Nm) at 3600 rpm. A 5-speed Getrag 282 manual transmission was available only by special order if paired with the 2.2 L LN2 110 hp (82 kW) 130 lbft (176 Nm), however very few special orders ever took place, and the 3-speed 3T40 automatic was the default option. The Chevrolet Beretta GT included 2.8 L LB6 V6 120 hp (89 kW) 170 lbft (230 Nm) engine, which grew to the 3.1 L LH0 140 hp (104 kW) 185 lbft (251 Nm) in 1991. The Chevrolet Beretta GTZ, which replaced the GTU in 1990, included 2.3 L LG0 180 hp (134 kW) 160 lbft (217 Nm) with standard Getrag 282 5-speed manual transmission and GM’s FE7 performance suspension. The 3.1 L V6 LH0 140 hp (104 kW) at 4800 rpm and 185 lbft (251 Nm) at 3600 rpm was standard on 1990-1992 GT models and optional for all base models and GTs in 1992.
