In USA, the 2nd generation Chevrolet Metro was introduced in 1998 in 3-door hatchback and 4-door sedan body styles (two trim levels were available: base and LSi). The standard engines were 1.0 L three-cylinder, four-stroke cycle gasoline engine LP2 offered 48 hp (36 kW) at 5100 rpm and 77 Nm (57 lbft) at 3200 [a base model only], 1.3 L L72 four-cylinder engine offered 67 hp (50 kW)) at 6000 rpm and 74 lbft (100 Nm) at 4000 [a LSi model only] and 1.3 L LY8 I4 offered 76-86 hp (56-63 kW) 77-85 lbft (104-115 Nm) [a hatchback only]. All engines were available with the 3-speed MX17 automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. In 2001 Chevrolet Metro was available as LSi sedan model only.
