The 5th generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo was introduced in 1994 in 2-door coupe body style (two trim levels were available: the LS and the Z34). LS models were powered by the 3.1 L L82 V6 engine 160 hp (120 kW) 185 lbft (251 Nm) while Z34 models were powered by the 3.4 L LQ1 DOHC V6 engine 210 hp (157 kW) 215 lbft (292 Nm). In 1998, the 3.4 L engine was replaced with the 3.8 L L36 V6 engine 200 hp (150 kW) 225 lbft (305 Nm).
The 6th generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo was introduced in 2000 in the same body style (three trim levels were available: LS, LT and SS). LS models were powered by the 3.4 L LA1 V6 engine 180 hp (130 kW) 205 lbft (278 Nm) and LT (SS) models were powered by the 3.8 L L36 V6 engine 200 hp (150 kW) 225 lbft (305 Nm). In 2004, SS Supercharged model with 3.8 L L67 SC engine 240 hp (180 kW) 280 lbft (380 Nm) and the 4-speed 4T65E-HD automatic transmission was added.
The 7th generation Chevrolet Monte Carlo was introduced in 2006 (four trim levels were available: the entry level LS, the mid level LT, the upper level LTZ and the top of the line SS). The base engine was the 3.5 L LZE V6 211 hp (157 kW) 214 lbft (290 Nm) with the 4-speed 4T65E automatic transmission. The 4-speed 4T65E-HD automatic transmission was an standard for SS models only.
