The 1st generation Chevrolet Spark (also called Chevrolet Matiz) was introduced in 1998 in 5-door hatchback and 5-door panel van body styles (three trim levels were available: E, S and SE). The standard engine was the 0.8 L S-TEC straight-three (796 cc) 50 hp (38 kW) 51 lbft (69 Nm) at 4,200 rpm while the 1.0 L S-TEC I4 (995 cc) 62 hp (46 kW) 64 lbft (87 Nm) at 4,300 rpm was an option. The 2nd generation Chevrolet Spark was introduced in 2005 in 5-door hatchback body style. The engines were updated. The standard engine was the 0.8 L S-TEC I3 51 hp (38 kW) 53 lbft (72 Nm) at 4,400 rpm while the 1.0 L S-TEC I4 65 hp (49 kW) 67 lbft (91 Nm) at 4,200 rpm was an option.
The 3rd generation Chevrolet Spark was introduced in 2009 in the same body style. Five engines were available: 1.0 L S-TEC 67 hp (50 kW) at 6,400 rpm 69 lbft (93 Nm) at 4,800 rpm; 1.2 L S-TEC 80 hp (60 kW) at 6,400 rpm 82 lbft (111 Nm) at 4,800 rpm; 1.2 L Smartech II 79.4 hp (59.2 kW) at 6,200 rpm 80 lbft (108 Nm) at 4,400 rpm; 1,2 L LL0 84 hp (62.5 kW) at 6400 rpm 83 lbft (112 Nm) at 4,400 rpm; 1.0 L XSDE Diesel I3 61.6 hp (46.0 kW) 111 lbft (150 Nm) at 1,750 rpm. Transmissions: 4-speed Aisin AW 80-40LE automatic, CVT Jatco M4M-CVT7 automatic and 5-speed Y4M HD manual. The 4th generation Chevrolet Spark was introduced in 2016. The US Spark was available in three trim levels: the base 1LS, the midrange 1LT, and the top-of-the-line 2LT. The standard engine was 1.4L LV7 DOHC I4 98 hp (73 kW) at 6200 rpm 94 lbfft (128 Nm) at 4400 rpm. The Chevrolet Spark EV was introduced in 2013. The standard engine was 130 hp (97 kW) electric motor, providing 542 Nm (400 lbft) of torque.
