Ford Freestar (the 3rd generation of Ford Windstar) was introduced in 2004 in 5-door minivan body style (five trim levels were available: base, SE, Sport, SEL and Limited). The vehicle was offered with multi-purpose wagon body shapes between the years 2004 and 2007. Standard engines were the 3.9L (3,881 cc) indirect injection Essex V6 making 193 hp (144 kW) at 4750 rpm and 240 lb·ft (326 N·m) at 3750 rpm [it used the same 3.810 in bore diameter as the 3.8L Essex, but had a slightly longer 3.464 in (88.0 mm) stroke] and the 4.2L (4,195 cc) indirect injection Essex V6 making 201 hp (150 kW) at 4250 rpm and 263 lb·ft (357 N·m) at 3650 rpm [like the 3.8L it had 12 valves and pushrods, but the 4.2L featured a longer, 3.74 in (95.0 mm) stroke]. While the standard 4-speed automatic transmission was carried over from Windstar, the 4F50N was upgraded for improved shifting and reliability. Ford Freestar is constructionally closely related to Mercury Monterey 2004-2007 (it was introduced in three trim levels: Convenience, Luxury, and Premier).
