Ford Sierra was available since 1982 in 2-door pickup, 3/5-door liftback, 4-door saloon and 5-door estate body styles. Standard engines were 1.6L (1,593 cc) Pinto making 74 hp (55 kW) at 5300 rpm and 88 lb·ft (120 N·m) at 2900 rpm and 2L (1,993 cc) Pinto making 104 hp (77 kW) at 5200 rpm and 116 lb·ft (157 N·m) at 4000 rpm. 1.3L, 1.6L and 2.0L engines all have a 4-speed manual transmission while a 5-speed manual transmission was optional with 1.6L and 2.0L engines, and standard with the 1.6L Economy engine, the 2.3L and 2.3L diesel. An optional 3-speed automatic transmission was available with 1.6L, 2.0L and 2.3L engines. In 1987 the Ford Sierra was facelifted. After this major facelift and the introduction of new engines (DOHC) in 1989, further changes to the Ford Sierra were superficial (final trim upgrades were in 1991).
