The 1st generation Kia Spectra was available since 2000 in 4-door sedan and 5-door liftback body styles (three trim levels were available: an entry level S, slightly upgraded GS, and the top-of-the-range GSX). Two petrol engines and one diesel engine were available: 1.5 L B5-DE 16V DOHC I4 produced 77-88 hp (57-65 kW) at 5,500-6,500 rpm and 98-108 lb·ft (132-147 N·m) at 4,000-5,500 rpm, 1.6 L B6 16V DOHC I4 produced 99 hp (74 kW) and 106 lb·ft (144 N·m) at 4,500 rpm, 1.8 L T8D I4 produced 109 hp (81 kW) and 112 lb·ft (152 N·m) at 4,400 rpm.
The 2nd generation Kia Spectra was available since 2003 in 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles (three trim levels were available: EX, LX and SX). Two petrol engines and three diesel engines were available: 1.6 L G4ED I4 produced 110 hp (82 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 106 lb·ft (144 N·m) at 4,500 rpm, 2.0 L G4GC I4 produced 140 hp (102 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 133 lb·ft (180 N·m) at 4,800 rpm, 1.5 L U I4 produced 108 hp (81 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 174 lb·ft (236 N·m) at 2,000 rpm, 1.6 L U I4 produced 89-126 hp (66-94 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 173-195 lb·ft (235-264 N·m) at 2,000 rpm, 2.0 L D I4 produced 110 hp (82 kW) and 181 lb·ft (245 N·m) at 2,000 rpm. In 2006, the Kia Spectra was facelifted.
