The 1st generation Pontiac Montana was available since 1996 in 3-door and 4-door minivan body styles (a short-wheelbase SWB and a long-wheelbase versions LWB). Four trim levels were available: base, LS, LT and LTV. The standard engine was the 3.4 L LA1 V6 produced 180 hp (134 kW) at 5,200 rpm and 210 lb·ft (280 N·m) at 4,000 rpm with the 4-speed 4T65-E automatic transmission. In 1999, this engine was slightly redesigned to produce 185 hp (138 kW) at 5,200 rpm 210 lb·ft (280 N·m) at 4,000 rpm. In 2002, the Pontiac Montana was facelifted.
The 2nd generation Pontiac Montana (also called Pontiac Montana SV6) was available since 2005 in 4-door minivan body style (SWB and LWB versions). Three petrol engines were available: 3.5 L LX9 V6 produced 196-201 hp (146-150 kW) and 213-221 lb·ft (289-300 N·m), 3.9 L LZ9 V6 produced 240 hp (179 kW) and 240 lb·ft (325 N·m), 3.9 L LGD V6 produced 240 hp (179 kW) and 240 lb·ft (325 N·m) with the 4-speed 4T65-E automatic transmission.
